A conversation with OLIVER RESSLER – BIC

The Biennale Internationale de Casablanca is pleased to announce the launch of its 2020 incubation programme with the visit of artist Oliver Ressler who will give a talk at the BIC Project Space on Thursday 23 January 2020 from 18h30 to 20h30.

Oliver Ressler is a filmmaker and artist based in Vienna, who works on issues such as economics, democracy, global warming and social alternatives. He has completed thirty-three films that have been screened worldwide in thousands of events of social movements, art institutions and film festivals. He had comprehensive solo exhibitions at Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo – CAAC, Seville; Wyspa Institute of Art, Gdansk; Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz; MNAC – National Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest; SALT Galata, Istanbul and currently at Cultural Centre of Belgrade. Ressler has participated in more than 350 group exhibitions, including Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Centre Pompidou, Paris; the biennials in Prague (2005), Seville (2006), Moscow (2007), Taipei (2008), Lyon (2009), Venice (2013), Quebec (2014), Jeju (2017), Kyiv (2017), Gothenburg (2019), Stavanger (2019), and at Documenta 14, Kassel, 2017 (exhibition organized by EMST). Ressler received the Prix Thun for Art and Ethics in 2016.

As part of the 5th Biennale Internationale de Casablanca, Ressler is creating a new commission produced in collaboration with Phileas – A Fund for Contemporary Art. His visit to Casablanca, on the occasion of his research on the theme of climate change, will give the public the opportunity to discover the work of the Austrian artist during this talk which will be accompanied with the screening of There Are No Syrian Refugees in Turkey (2016) and followed by a debate open to the public.
 

The BIC Project Space

The BIC Project Space is the Biennale Internationale de Casablanca’s new venue, hosting the 2019-2020 incubation programme developed by artistic director Christine Eyene, in the lead up to the 5th BIC that will take place from 24 September to 1 November 2020. Conceived as an experimental venue, the BIC Project Space proposes exhibitions, screenings, workshops, meetings and other artistic events organised in preparation for the biennale.
